Dear Karen, Sarah, and Ian,
I worked with your husband/father years ago at the Thoreau Society when he was hired to be Shop Manager. I loved his reenactment stories, but most of all, loved the stories he told about each of you and your lives together. I'm so sorry for your loss, and for the loss of his buoyant spirit among us.

Saddened that I wasn't able to get together with Jim before his passing. I loved reading his updates online about the important things in his life, his family, his work, his introspective and often funny views of life in general. So sorry, Karen and all those who will miss his presence in your lives...he will be missed. Liz Foley

Karen,
I'm so saddened by the news that Liz shared with me. Memories of your Fitchburg days & gatherings came back with smiles because of Spam.
Glad for your still strong friendships with my sister, well all the Cashman clan. How great to have seen & caught up with you at the function at the hotel.
He's left a lasting & positive memory, just the best, but you know that.
Love & prayers to you

I will forever remember our antics at Paul and Maureen's Wedding. You were always brought positivity wherever you went and should have had "fun guy" tattoed across your forhead. I can't believe I won't see you this Christmas at the annual party and that all your energy and presence has left us. You are a tough act to follow. Miss you Jim. My deepest sympathy Karen. I am so sorry. Know the two of you built a life so many of us have so much respect and admiration for.

On behalf of the Thoreau Society, I want to offer our condolences to Jim’s family. During his time on the Thoreau Society staff, Jim led several memorable trips to Baxter State Park in Maine, where our group climbed Ktaadn. He was a superb camp cook and kept our group smiling and laughing with his story telling and good humor. We is dearly loved by those who knew him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Jim was a very special person and held a special place in our hearts. Nearly 25 years ago, he noticed a little boy in a cocked hat with a wooden musket doing the Manual of Arms at a gathering at Minuteman NPS. .Jim, as Captain of Prescott's Battalion, pulled that boy from the crowd and placed him with the men of the battalion to perform for the crowd. The die was cast. Our son attributes where he is today, as an apprentice at Colonial Williamsburg, to the path that Jim set him on that day. We are grateful to have known him. He touched our lives. The Vigil light at St. Stephen's Church will burn in his memory this coming week. We can't be with you on Saturday but you will be in our thoughts. Daniel and Sabra
