Genevieve A. “Gen” (Zekevicius) Alosky, 91, of Andover, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Academy Manor Nursing Home in Andover.
The daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Gecauskas) Zekevicius, Gen was born in Cambridge, MA on September 10, 1925. She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception (Lithuanian) Grammar School and St. Mary’s High School in Cambridge. After her marriage, she moved to Lawrence and to West Andover I 1958, and was associated with her late husband, Paul, in the operation of the Lawrence Food Bank Store and the Back Bay Market of Lawrence, The Bargain Spot and Food Time Supermarket of Lynn. Returning to Lawrence, for many years, they operated Paul’s Market on Dracut St., South Lawrence, until her retirement. She was actively involved in the founding of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Andover, and one of its first C.C.D. teachers for many years. She was active in West Andover community affairs. She enjoyed her summers at Big Island Pond in Derry, NH. Gen was well known for her hospitality as a gracious hostess at her home in Andover and camp in Derry to everyone who visited. She was a well-known dog enthusiast, and especially loved her Pekingese, Barclay. Gen was proud of her Lithuanian heritage, and enjoyed making her famous “Kugelis”.
The wife of the late Paul J. Alosky, Gen is survived by her son and caregiver, Paul J. Alosky of Andover; three grandchildren, Paul W. Alosky, Eric J. Alosky and Andrea J. Alosky of Merrimac, MA; a great-grandson, Daniel; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul would like to sincerely thank the staff and everyone at the Academy Manor for the kind and compassionate care given to Gen during her stay at Academy.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggetts Pond Rd, Andover. Everyone, Please meet at Church. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Academy Manor Activities Fund, 89 Morton St, Andover, MA 01810.
