Welcome to the memorial page for

Gloria E. Duxbury

Gloria Elizabeth (Sutcliffe) Duxbury, 83, died Monday October 29th at Lawrence General Hospital after a short illness. Goldie was raised in Arlington and Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1946. She was employed for a number of years at various area companies, including Frank C. Myers Co., Spar and Spindle Council (Girl Scouts), and the payroll department at Lawrence General Hospital for 17 years, from which she retired in 1995. First and foremost, however, she was a loving and supportive mother and nurturing grandmother. She always seemed to have at hand, and willingly provide, exactly whatever it was you needed at that moment- a hug, a recipe, some obscure piece of fabric, a kind word. She was an avid gardener, a superb needle crafter, a lover of campfire songs and a Girl Scout for 50 years.

Goldie is adored and survived by her daughter Cheryl and husband Len Gaudette of Lawrence, and her daughter Wendy and husband Mike Morin of Salisbury. She will be loved always by her seven grandchildren: Patrick Shine and his wife Kristen, Jennifer Laurendeau and her husband Gary, Amy Jones and her husband Michael, Christopher Shine and his wife Amie, Bridget Shine-Rusche and her husband Vincent, Brendan Shine, Jaime Morin and her fiancé Joshua Frye- and by her 10 great grandchildren- Ian and Dylan Shine, Jessica Jensen, Nicholas and Daniel Laurendeau, Magnolia and Tate Jones, and Joel, Daniella and Alyssa Shine.

She is also survived by her devoted sister, Diane Harriman of Lawrence, several nieces and nephews, as well as dear members of her extended “Scouting family.”  Goldie was predeceased by her brother Bruce Sutcliffe and by an infant daughter, Mary M. Duxbury.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Charles F.
