James Johnstone Taylor, 100, a longtime resident of Methuen, passed away on May 6, 2015.


James was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy E. (Moore) Taylor who passed away April 27, 2013, after 72 years of marriage.


Jim was born in Lawrence to the late Alexander and Annie (Bushnell) Taylor. He was educated in the Lawrence school system.


Jim served in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USS EVANSVILLE, PF-70, during WWII as a Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class (PHCM2C) and was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war he went to work at the Arlington Mills, and later Raytheon in Waltham as an engineer until his retirement. 


Jim was an avid singer and piano player. He sang in The Christian Endeavor Radio Choir, Andover Choral Society, and First Calvary Baptist Church Choir, and belonged to the John Hancock Lodge of The Masons in Methuen.


Jim is survived by his 4 children: daughter Joyce (Taylor) and husband Lee Snodgrass; Sons: Donald and wife MaryKay, Kenneth and wife Donna, Allen and wife Carol. He also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his brothers, Paul and wife MaryAlice, Albert and wife Patricia, brother-in-law Charles Moore and wife Jessie and sister-in-law Ruth Moore, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by his sister Dorothy Taylor and brother Alexander (Ted) Taylor and wife Marjorie. 


His family would like to express appreciation to all the staff of Station B at the Nevins Nursing Home and Hospice for their love and support. Not enough can be said of the kind, compassionate and loving care he received during his time there, his family is forever grateful.


There will be no calling hours. A service will be held on Tuesday May 12, beginning at 10:30am at First Calvary Baptist Church, 586 Massachusetts Avenue, North Andover, MA. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to First Calvary Baptist Church, 586 Massachusetts Avenue, North Andover, MA 01845, Salem Animal Rescue League, 4 SARL Drive, Salem, NH 03079 or MSPCA-Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
