William G. MacKenzie, a 42 year resident of Methuen, passed away at the age of 71 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
Born in Quincy, MA, Mr. MacKenzie graduated from North Quincy High School. He earned his B.A. in Mathematics from Gettysburg College and an M.S. in Statistics from the University of Connecticut. Bill worked for thirty years as a statistician with the U. S. Government. After retirement, he taught for many years at Bunker Hill Community College and at Middlesex Community College. Mr. MacKenzie served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
Bill was a long-time member of the Forest Street Union Church in Methuen, where he served for many years as a Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School teacher. He was also well-known in Methuen for his 25 years of coaching Little League baseball. In recent years, he served as a Friend of the Methuen Memorial Music Hall. Bill enjoyed gardening and working around the house, and he adored his grandsons.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley A. (Richardson) MacKenzie, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage, his son Edward G. MacKenzie and his wife Katie of Londonderry, NH, and his daughter Karen R. MacKenzie-Sleeman and her husband Joseph of Norwood, MA. He is also survived by six grandsons, Alex and Charlie MacKenzie, and JJ, Tommy, Ryan, and Andrew Sleeman, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Private Funeral Services will take place and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. A Public Celebration of Life will take place at a future date.
