Wayne Leocata Obituary

The world is a little quieter and far less funny with the sudden passing of Wayne J. Leocata, who left us December 29, 2024. Born the third son (and possibly the loudest) of five children to Irene and Fred Leocata, Wayne's life was a masterclass in living large, loving deeply, and laughing often.

Wayne joins his beloved parents, Irene and Fred Leocata, his brother Dennis, and his brother-in-law Stan Wozniakowski, who surely welcomed him with open arms and a hearty laugh. He leaves behind his siblings Joy, Tammy and her husband Dan Reitano, and Kevin Leocata and wife Carolyn Leocata, his nieces Shannon Leocata Figueras and Angela Leocata and Lindsey Maguire, his nephew Nicholas Leocata, and his cousin Karen Rogers and several other cousins—who are all likely still giggling at one of his jokes because, let’s be honest, Wayne always had the best punchline.

After graduating from Central Catholic High School, Wayne followed his passion for hospitality to Northern Essex Community College, where he studied culinary arts. He brought his signature flair to the New England area first at Mama Leone’s in Hampton beach before running a restaurant in Atlantic City, Nevin’s Home in Methuen and the Lawrence Housing Authority and shortly after he opened The Palms Restaurant & Cabaret in Wilton Manors, FL. True to form, Wayne’s personality was as much a draw as the food itself. For many years Wayne was the lead technical engineer for the New England Theater annual competition at Brandeis University.

Wayne adored the beach—but only in winter, because tanning is overrated, and summer crowds were far too “mainstream” for him. A man of many talents, he also graced the stage with The Garrett Players for several years, where he reveled in the spotlight. One of his most cherished roles was Daddy Warbucks in Annie, a performance that would have made Broadway jealous.

Wayne was a big man in every way: his size, his heart, his soul, and, most notably, his personality. He didn’t just walk into a room—he arrived. His booming voice could vibrate walls, and his laughter was infectious, drawing people in like moths to a hilarious, bright flame. Wherever Wayne went, joy followed. His humor, quick wit, and larger-than-life presence made him the life of every party and the unofficial mayor of every gathering. If there was a spotlight, Wayne found it; if there wasn’t, he created one.

Wayne's life was a testament to living boldly, loving fiercely, and laughing often. While we’ll miss his booming voice, infectious laugh, and magnetic personality, we’ll carry his spirit with us—perhaps in the form of a joke he would’ve told or a story he might have exaggerated just a bit for effect.

We will have a service and burial at the Leocata family plot at the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen at 10:30AM on Saturday, January 25th. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held directly following at 12PM.  In lieu of flowers, tell a great joke, make someone laugh, or sing an off-key rendition of Tomorrow from Annie in his honor. Wayne would’ve loved that.

Rest in peace, Wayne. The world is less bright without you, but we’ll keep telling your stories and laughing with your memory in our hearts.  We love you forever.
