W. Donald Alexander Obituary

W. Donald (Don) Alexander, 89, a longtime resident of North Andover, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Holy Family Hospital, Methuen. Mr. Alexander was born in Lawrence, MA, to Edna (Potter) and William H. Alexander. He was raised and educated in North Andover. He was a graduate of Boston University.

Don worked for 37 years as a sales manager at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was past president of Merrimack Valley and Massachusetts Life Underwriters Associations. During his career, Don was the recipient of the John P. Meehan award in 1989. This award is the most prestigious award given to a life underwriter.

Don was an avid sports fan, especially his beloved Red Sox and Patriots. He also loved a good game of golf. Don enjoyed watching his son play sports at North Andover High. He became a founding member of the North Andover High Sports Wagon. The organization was established to raise funds to benefit all the school sports teams. He was very proud of this accomplishment.

He served with the US Army Medical Corps during the Korean War. Don was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of St. Matthew’s Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Andover, MA.

Don was predeceased by his wife Barbara S. Alexander, his son Brian Scott Alexander his daughter Karen (Alexander) Merrill and his brother Doug Alexander.

He is survived by his son Wayne and his wife Marian Alexander of Wilmington, NC, his daughters Susan and her husband Richard Deyermond of Atkinson, NH, and Leslie and her husband Michael Guillet of Lawrence, MA. He leaves several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday July 27, 2022 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 28 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in West Parish Cemetery, Andover, MA. Officers and members of St. Matthew’s Lodge, A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic services at 6:45 pm on Wednesday at the funeral Home.
