Virginia “Gina/Ginny” R. Lumb, 91 of Methuen passed away on Wednesday November 24, 2021 at Prescott House, N. Andover. Mrs. Lumb was born, raised and educated in Methuen. She was a 1948 graduate of Edward F. Searles High School and has lived in Methuen all of her life.
Before having her children, she worked at the former Wood Mills, the Methuen Stamp Company and for her uncle at his ice cream stand in Methuen. She was a longtime member of The First United Methodist Church of Methuen where she was a member of the choir, a member of the United Methodist Women and was active with the Sunday school as well as with all church activities including church fairs and rummage sales. Virginia was also active with the Stephen Barker PTA and served as a Girl Scout leader and was a founding member of the Methuen Community Chorus. She loved knitting and sewing and enjoyed drives to the beach, the mountains and enjoyed dining out. Virginia was an avid, award-winning candlepin bowler and bowled with two leagues well into her 80’s. Virginia was very proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed attending many high school plays, baseball and hockey games.
Her family members include her daughter Sandra J. Lumb of Methuen and her son Kenneth W. Lumb and his wife Jean Lumb of Stoneham, MA. She also leaves her grandchildren Amanda Lumb of Stoneham and Daniel Lumb of Wakefield, MA. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia was predeceased by her husband of almost 63 years William T. Lumb and her parents Walter and Gladys (Hill) Peate and her brother and sister-in-law Russell and Peggy Peate.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday December 6, 2021 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Funeral services will be on Tuesday December 7 at 11:30 am in the First Baptist Church, 30 Park St., Methuen, MA 01844. (Guests are asked to meet directly at the church and to please observe Covid practice including wearing a mask). Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Methuen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Friends of The Nevins Library, 305 Broadway, Methuen, MA., 01844.
