Thomas “Tom” Francis Pickett, III – Lawrence, MA
Thomas “Tom” Francis Pickett, III, of Lawrence, Massachusetts passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the age of 73.
Tom was born and raised in Somerville, Massachusetts. His father Thomas and his mother Eleanor raised Tom and his three older sisters—Lousie, Mary Ellen, and Jane—with strong love and great care.
Tom worked as an MBTA diesel mechanic for 23 years. Through his time in the garage, he gathered countless colorful stories, often involving many different men all nicknamed “Sully” and perhaps most memorably, “Hot Dog Louie.” Tom was also an insatiable learner. He was curious about everything and never missed an opportunity to discover—a character trait that earned him the nickname “Mr. Wizard” at the garage.
At the age of 42, Tom became father to his three daughters through his partnership with Hwa Sun (Hannah) Shin. Although not biologically related, Tom jumped into parenting, taking Jennifer, Christina, and Katherine in as his own. He did not leave their sides for the next 33 years of his life. The gifts of love, guidance, and care that he gave his girls abide in and sustain them.
The last chapter of Tom’s life was made vibrant thanks to his dear partner Norma Lambert and her welcoming and wide network of family and friends. Together, they single-handedly kept karaoke alive in the greater Methuen area.
Tom took great delight in his grandchildren. He showered steadfast love for them across thousands of miles and his love will reverberate in and through each of them, forever.
He will be deeply missed by his partner, Norma Lambert; his daughters, Jennifer Zahara, Christina Zahara Noh (Gene) and Katherine Soovajian (Dan); his sister, Louise LoPresti, Hwa Sun (Hannah) Shin; and his dearest friend, Steven Peters (Judy Eisenberg). He leaves his five beloved grandchildren, Gabrielle, Elijah and Davin Noh and Milo and Cora Soovajian; as well as countless family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas F. Pickett, Jr. and Eleanor (Tosi) Pickett; as well as his sisters, Mary Lochiatto and Jane Grossi.
