Richard Nimmo Obituary

Richard “Dick” Thomas Nimmo, Sr. passed away on January 14th, 2025 at the age of 82 in Methuen, MA.  He was born in Lawrence on July 28,1942 to Muriel (Wood) of Groveland and Thomas “Archie” Nimmo of Methuen.

Dick was raised on the Nimmo family farm on Baremeadow Street in Methuen, where he spent his childhood and early years working hard to help and support his family. The family farm, dating back to July 2nd of 1901, was started by his great grandparents, James and Sarah Nimmo, after moving to Massachusetts from England. The Nimmo family originally hailed from Scotland, specifically from the Isle of Skye. Dick kept in his possession the old family crest with the Nimmo name and the motto of “Thou Shall Not Boast”, a sentiment that he most certainly lived up to being the humble man that he was. As the fourth in line to owning the farm, he completely took over the family business. The farm became better known as Meadowview Dairy Farm, a name that anyone who grew up in Pleasant Valley at the time would surely recognize.

He graduated from Tenney High in Methuen in 1960. He married the love of his life Karyl (Wilde) (predeceased) of Salem, N.H. in April 1962. They were married 62 years and lovingly raised their family in Methuen. The home they created together on the farm for their family and friends was a sanctuary for all.

Dick was a wonderful and soft-spoken man who was easy to admire.  All he wanted was to make others laugh and keep the peace. He was well loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.

Dick and Karyl had five children, Richard Jr., Jeffrey and his wife Sharon, Brian (predeceased), James and his wife Stephanie, and Kristen and her husband Jamie; ten grandchildren Richard, Ashley and her husband Paul, Brandon, Courtney N. and her fiancé Tyler, Joshua, Jaryd, Justin, William and his wife Kelly, Courtney L., and Anthony; and four great grandchildren Rhylee, Callum, Noa and Wesley. Dick also leaves behind a brother Kevin and his wife Susan and sister Linda and her husband Stephen, as well as several other brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A small graveside service will be held for the immediate family at a future date at the Nimmo family plot at Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence, laying Karyl and Dick at rest together per their request.
