Pat J. Benson was born in the fair city of San Antonio on June 23, 1944. Under the warmth of the summer sun and with a lifelong fondness for old Westerns, his story began. In his youth, Pat’s family made their way north, settling in the Merrimack Valley, where he would grow up and form many of the friendships and memories that shaped the man he would become. His life came to a peaceful close in Lowell on March 9, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with illness.
Pat, as he was affectionately known by family and friends alike, moved through life with a ready smile, a quick wit and a spirit that never dimmed with the passing years.
A graduate of Methuen High School, Pat’s intelligence and natural charm helped shape a life filled with friendship and connection. Professionally, he worked in the world of printed materials, skillfully blending the art of production with the craft of sales. Known not only for his dedication but also for his personal touch, Pat often arrived to visit his clients with fresh Syrian bread in hand, a simple but memorable gesture that reflected his warmth and generosity. His versatility and friendly nature made him a respected and well-liked colleague throughout his career.
Though he took pride in his work, Pat found his greatest joy in the people around him. He was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable fan of NASCAR, football, baseball and hockey. Classic automobiles from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s always caught his eye and he was often drawn to the sand and surf whenever he could be. Pat especially treasured time spent with friends and family, gathering around the grill, sharing laughter, good food, and good stories.
Thoughtful, humorous and endlessly generous with his love, Pat left an indelible impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His wit, kindness and steady presence will be remembered and cherished.
He leaves behind a proud and loving family, his son Robert Benson and his wife Angela Benson, his daughter Heather Cuthbertson and her husband Jim Cuthbertson and his beloved grandchildren Marina Keenan, Sean Benson, Erik Benson, Bryan Benson and Chelsea Kobrenski. He is also survived by his sisters, Marian Fredette and Ruth Parker and his brother Bill Benson. Pat’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Myles Benson, Beatrice Keenan, Beverly Keenan, and Max Kobrenski.
As we bid farewell to Pat J. Benson, we need not dwell in sorrow, but instead celebrate the life of a man who embraced the world with warmth and humor, leaving it richer for having known him.
