Norman A. Rushton, 95, of Methuen passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024 surrounded by his family. Mr. Rushton was born in Ada, Minnesota and moved to Methuen in 1960 where he lived for over 60 years.
Norman joined the United States Airforce in 1948. In 1954 while in pilot training, his plane experienced mechanical failure causing a crash. He spent time in the Brooks Army Hospital Texas burn unit and in Massachusetts recovering from his injuries.
Norman met his wife of 65 years, Nancy, on a blind date on Friday the 13th, January 1952. He always considered Friday the 13th a lucky day.
Norman was a graduate of Boston University with a degree in accounting. He worked for many years at Bride Grimes Inc of Lawrence as their accountant. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church of Lawrence and presently a member of the Forest Street Union Church of Methuen.
Norman enjoyed camping, square dancing, traveling, and beating the Microsoft collection of Solitaire games at the expert level. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Queen City Chapter of Lawrence.
Norman leaves his daughter Laura Young and her husband Brian, his sons Richard Rushton and his wife Linda, and Robert Rushton and his wife Margaret. He also leaves his grandchildren Danielle and her husband Nathan, Jason and his fiancé Monica, Erica, Jeremy, and his great grandchildren Brayden and Shawn.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday December 30, 2024 from 10 am to 11 am at the Dewhirst Boles Funeral Home 80 Broadway Methuen. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Forest Street Union Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
