In Loving Memory
Maurice Kounga
Papa Maurice Kounga passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Saturday, April 8th, 2023, in the evening. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend. Papa is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rebecca Kounga, and many children and grandchildren.
Papa Maurice was born in Baham, Cameroon, on January 1st, 1948, to Djoko Tabouta and Gemdjo Sarah. He attended primary and elementary school at EEC de Baham et the EEC de Mbo, where he received his high school diploma in 1960. Papa Maurice went on to attend secondary school, au College Libamba and The Ecole Emily Saker de Ndougue, to become a nurse practitioner specializing in obstetrics in 1971. Papa Maurice ultimately worked as an Ob-Gyn nurse practitioner at multiple hospitals in numerous cities and villages throughout West Cameroon.
Papa Maurice strongly believed that when you help people, you should not expect a reward from them but rather from the Lord. After 40 years of service, he retired and moved to the United States in 2009, where he lived until his passing.
Papa Maurice was a man of faith, an eminent servant of the Lord, and a renowned church Deacon of his native community in Cameroon. He followed Jesus and maintained his faith until his last day.
Papa Maurice was devoted to his family. He valued hard work and honesty and consistently promoted his family's education. Papa was also loyal to his friends and always available to anyone who needed help. He lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, taking care of grandkids, chatting with friends and family, and cracking jokes. He had an uncanny ability to reach people profoundly and positively.

To Papa with Love
Like cinnamon spice and vanilla essence
You added flavor with your presence each day.
Wisdom exuded from your lips,
Integrity and humility defined your actions.
As we reflect on your fruitful years
We see your vision already taking shape.
From up there, enjoy the ride with us.
As you are the crafting artist
who lay the foundation on which we stand.
You did your very best and truly left your mark,
It's OK Dad, to take your well-deserved rest.
Though your sun has set now,
Your light will always live on within our hearts,
Until we see each other again, some day.
By all of Us
