Mary Quinlan Obituary

Mary Alice (Williams) Quinlan, 78, passed away on December 24, 2023 following a long illness.  She was born in Medford, MA but lived in Somerville, West Pittsburg, CA, Everett, Andover, and most recently, Lawrence, MA.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Mary worked in food service at Harvard University for 19 years and proudly served as her union's Shop Steward (HEREIU, Local 26).  She was known for her sharp wit, sense of humor, and generous spirit.  Mary was a voracious reader and a fierce debater, who kept up with current events, social and political issues, and pop culture. She was both a great listener and storyteller, and even after she lost her eyesight and became ill, she could still argue and discuss topics as she never lost her intellectual curiosity.  She touched the lives of many over her 78 years, including extended family, friends, co-workers and students at Harvard University, and even medical professionals that cared for her during her illnesses- she was often referred to as the "favorite patient."  She was truly unforgettable.

Mary is survived by her 5 children: Daniel (Mike) Quinlan, Jr. of San Francisco, CA, Melissa Quinlan of Pittsburg, CA, Heather Quinlan-Baron and husband Kevin of Beverly, Maura (Molly) Quinlan of Lawrence and Colin Quinlan and wife Liliane of North Andover; grandchildren Felicia (Pina) Hill and husband Jerome, Gabriel Pina, Aidan Brymer, Fiona Brymer, Jude Douglas, Liam Douglas, and Vincent Quinlan, and great-grandson Jerome Hill III; best friend/sister-in-law Patricia Quinlan, and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.  Mary was predeceased by husband Daniel Quinlan, Sr., and granddaughter Eloise Quinlan.

Mary will be dearly missed by her family and loved ones, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.  She loved, and was loved.
