Obituary

Mary O. (Hoops) Houlihan – Methuen, MA

Mary O. (Hoops) Houlihan, 63 resident of Methuen and longtime resident of Somerville, died at home after a long illness surrounded by her loved ones.  Mary is survived by her wife Deborah (Debbi) Blouin and her children Kelsie Blouin and Jared Blouin, Methuen, MA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Cheryl Carmo who acted as her PCA and her nephew David Carmo.

She was the daughter of the late John (Red) Houlihan and Frances (Fran) Byers Houlihan.

She was a graduate of Somerville, MA High School Class of 77 and Northern Essex Community College where she earned an Associate Degree in Computer Information Systems and several certificates.

Mary loved to camp and watch the birds. She enjoyed shooting pool and playing darts at local social clubs. She also played online crossword and jigsaw puzzles.  She was a huge lover of all animals but especially dogs. The highlight of her year was going to Foxwoods on Super Bowl Weekend with her best bud Penny Watson.  She was always helpful to those that needed it especially her “weekend wife” Kathy Johnson.  She will be remembered as someone who enjoyed life.

Mary is survived by her 4 brothers, 3 sisters and predeceased by one sister-in-law. She also is survived by 14 nieces and nephews and their partners/spouses as well as 11 grandnieces and nephews.

Mary will also be remembered by many friends and acquaintances, especially those at the Keltic Club, Great Meadow Campground, her Wednesday night knitting group and many dart and pool teams.

We will have a celebration of Mary’s life at a later date.
