Obituary

Mary P. Candiano, 84, passed away on the morning of April 6th, 2023.  Pat, as she was known to her many friends, was born on March 3, 1939 in Brockton, MA.

She is survived by her eldest son, Carl Candiano of Warner Robins, GA,  her son Steven Candiano and his wife Erin of Seabrook, NH,  her daughter Patricia Candiano of Portsmouth, NH, and her youngest son James “Mitch” Candiano of Lawrence, MA. Pat is also survived by her sister Barbara Jean McKinstry, her grandchildren Nickolas, Keith, Nathan, Kiera, Curtis, Crystal, Cory, Evan, and Chelsea; and her great-grandchildren Jasmine, Curtis Jr, Dominick, Jack, Cade, Kinsley, Benjamin and, arriving on the very day Pat left us, Quinn.

She was preceded in death by her son David Candiano of Methuen, MA, David’s son Derek, and her former husband Carmelo J, “Carl” Candiano.

Pat spent the formative years of her life in New Mexico and Maine. In 1957 she met and married Carl Candiano. Together they ran an amusement business, a food distribution business and managed to raise 5 kids!  The Candianos were a fixture in Lawrence – everyone wanted to trick or treat at their house as they gave out candy apples. Pat was “Mom” to many more than her biological children.  182 was the place for everyone to get together and Pat was always there with some sound advice.  She was a very sociable person and loved having coffee with friends and family.  She also loved to sew.  She made beautiful curtains, pillowcases and quilts.  If you were lucky enough to receive one of her quilts, she held you in the highest regard.  She continued the food business right up until 2001, working in a cotton candy stand training staff and spinning cotton candy like the professional that she was until her health would no longer allow her. In 2020 she moved to assisted living in Salisbury and those years were tough.  She died peacefully under hospice care at Country Rehab in Newburyport MA.
