Marcia Poirier Obituary

Marcia “Marcie” (Gabriel) Poirier was a caring mother, wife, nana, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She left this world on October 2, 2021 in her hometown of Lawrence, MA at the age of 61, after a hard-fought battle following a recent illness.

She was born to Thomas and Clara Gabriel of Lawrence, MA on June 24, 1960. Marcia had a passion for music and the arts in her youth and volunteered for the award-winning Garrett Players of Lawrence when the theatre was located in front of her childhood home in the late 1970s.  After graduating from high school, Marcia pursued her dream career and attended Elizabeth Grady Cosmetology School in Boston, MA.  Marcia worked in the field of cosmetology successfully for several years. In the early 1990s, her dream came true when she opened her own salon, where she ultimately met her husband, Raymond Poirier. Together, they had two children, Emma and Sara.

After retiring from cosmetology, Marcia began helping with a family business, working at “The Cow” where she met some dear friends and shared some great memory-making moments. She also started working for her dearest cousin, Dawn Marie, and her husband Youssef Aboelsaad, babysitting their two twin boys, Gabriel and Youssef, from the day they were born. She readily helped care for many other cousins, nieces, and nephews over the years, acting as a tremendous influence in all the lives she touched.  Everyone loved their “Auntie Marcie”.

Marcia loved the Fall and spending time with her daughters and grandson, Levi.   They just recently enjoyed a trip to one of her favorite places, Story Land in NH, where many memories have been made with loved ones over the years. Marcia loved spending time in the kitchen, cooking and baking for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed a special Christmas tradition of teaching her children, nieces, nephews, and friends how to make her special Christmas cookies, batch after batch after batch. She also loved to cook classic Lebanese foods like Kibbee and Loubieh on the weekends, and her famous refrigerator cake for the kids on special occasions. The kitchen was definitely one of her happy places and where her family will always remember her smiling, just as her mother Clara did.

Marcia is survived by her daughters, Emma Poirier and Sara Poirier; her grandson, Levi Lee; her brothers, Thomas Gabriel, Edmond Gabriel and his wife Dianne; Niece and Goddaughter Jennifer Gabriel, niece Camille Gabriel, nephews James Gabriel, Jason Gabriel, and William Gabriel and their wives; and many cousins, family, and dear friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Raymond Poirier; her parents, Thomas and Clara Gabriel; and her brother, James Gabriel.
