Lillian Ann Newcomb, daughter of Alexander and Asma Hasbany, passed away in hospice care at Cedar View Rehabilitation Center at the age of 97. She leaves behind her daughter Jacklin Ann Adams, and her granddaughter Abigail Fisher Adams both of NC. Lillian also leaves step daughters, grandchildren and a great grandchild. She also leaves her daughters Alice Adams LaPlume and Shirley Adams Epperson of Illinois as well as her grandchildren Allison Franz of Illinois, Jessica McCurrie of Kansas and a great granddaughter Hailey as well as several nephews.
Lillian worked in the converse tire plant making pontoon boats during WWII, left for California after marrying Jack Zane Powell, and returned back to Massachusetts to be with her family after the birth of their daughter Jacklin. Lillian was a lover of the musical arts. Her Soprano voice was heard across multiple off-Broadway productions in musicals and back stage as a support singer. A member of the White Shrine and Eastern Star, she loved to volunteer and received recognition from both Nevins Nursing Home and Lawrence General Hospital for her volunteer work among the patients there. She was a devoted sister to 4 brothers and 3 sisters all of whom grew up in Methuen and Lawrence Massachusetts. Lillian was a devout Christian and volunteered at the church as well as with various aspects of her congregation.
Family and friends are invited to an hour of visitation on Thursday March 5, 2020 from 10 am to11 am at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway Methuen. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11.00 am on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
