Leo Kirane Obituary

Leo F. Kirane, 90, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the Bear Mountain Healthcare in Andover.

Leo was born in Lowell, MA on October 27, 1930.  He graduated from Lowell High School.  Leo also served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He worked in the supermarket industry in various roles throughout his working career.

Leo was an appointed member of the Methuen Council on Aging Commission and the Board of Trustees for the Methuen Senior Activity Center for 20 years.  One of his proudest achievements was being one of the founding organizers for the Adopt-A-Grandparent Program in 2002 interacting with hundreds of Methuen High School students throughout those years.  He made a tremendous impact on his fellow retirees and students at the Center with his vitality and zest for life.  An active person who roller skated into his late 80’s, he taught aerobics 3 days a week and was the first to volunteer for any job, big or small.  He received many volunteer awards through the years and received the prestigious “Service to seniors” Award in 2007 from the Methuen Exchange Club.

Leo was the widower of Gloria Kirane, who passed away two months prior.  He is survived by a niece, Susan Terry of Methuen and a nephew, James Kirane of Pelham, NH and many friends who dearly loved him and will miss him.

Services and burial with military honors in St Patrick Cemetery, Lowell will be private.  Arrangements are by the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Methuen Senior Center, 77 Lowell Street, Methuen, MA 01844.  To leave an online condolence, please visit Leo’s tribute page at www.dewhirstbolesfuneral.com.
