Joyce K Gray

Joyce K. Gray, 91, formerly of Lawrence, a wonderful Mother and caring Grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2023, at the Hannah Dustin Healthcare Center in Haverhill, MA.

The daughter of the late James and Elsie (Haigh) Kew, Joyce was born in Lawrence, MA on August 5, 1931.  Joyce attended Lawrence High School and after graduating worked at Jackson Lumber Company in Lawrence.  On October 5th, 1952, Joyce married Robert E. Gray in Lawrence, her husband on 58 years.  Together, they settled in , and raised their family in Lawrence.  She later retired from Merrimack College in North Andover after spending many years working in  payroll at the college’s business office.  In addition, Joyce had many hobbies throughout her life.  She was a talented crafter who enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, doll-making, and acrylic painting.  After retirement, she became an avid traveler adventuring through Europe and relaxing on cruises with her husband.  She also spent summers at the family cottage in York, ME with friends and family.  She attended Grace Episcopal Church in Lawrence.

Joyce’s sense of humor and kind heart will never be forgotten.  Joyce will forever be loved and missed by family and friends.

Joyce was predeceased in death by her husband, Robert E. Gray; and is survived by her daughter, Beverly Homsey and her husband George Homsey of Oakdale, CT; her son, Robert Gray and his wife Deborah Gray of  Atkinson, NH; and her daughter, Lisa Joaquin of Haverhill, MA; her seven grandchildren, Barbara, Pauline, Anthony, Robert, Jr., Matthew, Amanda, and Jillian; and nine great-grandchildren.  Joyce is also survived by a nephew, Stephen Crompton and his wife Leslie Crompton of Andover, MA; a niece, Laurie Crompton of North Andover; a niece, Martha Johnson and her husband, Jeff of North Reading; and a nephew, Jeffrey Mills of Sebastian, FL.

Joyce was also predeceased by her sister, Irene (Kew) Crompton and brother-in-law, Ralph Crompton.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to calling hours on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Dewhirst and Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.  A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dewhirst and Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844, with burial following at the Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover.
