John James Dean was born in Lawrence, MA on July 15,1931.
He was loved and raised in Lawrence by his mother Theresa (Kiley) Dean, and devoted aunts, uncles, first cousins, coaches and mentors. He was also predeceased by his father John A. Dean, also from Lawrence.
Jack, or “fast Jack” as he was known to family and friends, graduated from Lawrence High and was a gifted athlete who excelled at basketball and baseball, and later in life, softball, volleyball, and bowling. He played second base for the state championship Holihan’s softball team and played basketball in Europe while in the Navy. Jack served during the Korean War as an Electrician's Mate Petty Officer 3rd Class while stationed in the Mediterranean aboard the USS N K Perry. Jack retired from New England Telephone as an installer/repairman. He was a zealous fan of Boston sports teams, a lover of jazz music, and cherished winters in Florida! He taught his children and grandchildren to play sports and treasured his many years of coaching many young people on athletic teams across the Merrimack Valley.
He met his wife, Pauline Gosselin (1934-2020), at the Hampton Beach dance hall and married her in 1955.Together, they raised four children: Linda Dean Campbell, Nancy Dean Beaulieu, Jacqueline (Dean) Bolduc, and Michael Dean. Each of their children married and raised families in the Merrimack Valley. Jack and Pauline welcomed and loved their sons-in-law: Donald Campbell, Alan Beaulieu, Michael Bolduc; and their daughter-in-law, Joanie (Tebbe) Dean. He loved and spent many happy days with his brothers-in-law Bill and Father Richard Gosselin, Bill’s wife Alice, and their children, Marian, Paula, and Diana.
Jack was a humble, loving, soft spoken, patient and kind husband, father, grandfather, and friend who cherished his family above all. Jack and Pauline deeply loved each of their nine grandchildren: Marie and Zachary Campbell, Michelle and Nicholas Beaulieu, Jill, Benjamin and Michael Bolduc, Madison and Myles Dean.
