It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Whelan, who passed away peacefully at the age of 83.
Born on June 30, 1943, in Stoneham, MA, Jim lived a life marked by resilience, love, and devotion to his family. Throughout his years, he built lasting friendships and touched the lives of many with his wisdom, kindness, and quiet strength.
He was the proud father of three adult children, who will forever cherish the love, guidance, and memories they shared with him. He was also blessed with a second chance at love through his marriage to his beloved wife, Jeanette, with whom he shared many happy years.
Whether spending time with family, sharing stories from years gone by, following his favorite sports teams, or simply enjoying life’s everyday moments, Jim found joy in the people he loved most. His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, extended family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; his children, Mark Whelan; Brenda Yei and her husband Dave; Jared Whelan and his wife Monica; Yvonne Collette, Melody Collette; grandchildren, Patrick, Nathan, Juliana, Lewis, Monica, Madelynn, Macgyver, Maverick; his sister Barbara Glynn and her husband Tim; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and grand puppy Marley. He was preceded in death by his sister Trish Fink and her husband Bob, and his parents James and Helena Whelan.
A visitation will be held from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Dewhirst Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA, followed by a celebration of life at the Irish Cottage Event Hall, 17 Branch St, Methuen, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to www.stjude.org or www.epilepsynorcal.org, if desired.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
