James Edward Hamblet – North Andover, MA
James Edward Hamblet of North Andover, Massachusetts, died on November 19, 2024, following a brief illness. Jim will be fondly remembered by all whose paths he crossed in his 90 years.
Jim was born on August 22, 1934 to Warren and Germilla Hamblet of Methuen, Massachusetts. Jim and his three brothers grew up in Methuen. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1950, and graduated from Methuen High School in 1952.
Jim attended MIT, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1956. He was a member of the Crew team and a member of the Army ROTC.
He spent summers as a camper and counselor at Camp Lawrence on Lake Winnipesaukee. It was at the lake that he met Ann Woodley. He married Ann in 1957 and they raised three children together. Ann passed away in 1999 after 42 years of marriage.
Jim served in the US Army for four years and was stationed in Korea from April of 1957 through September of 1958. After his service, Jim earned an MBA from Babson College. He went on to work at Hamblet Machine Company before starting his own business in 1972. He ran the successful manufacturing firm in Lawrence until 2003, employing up to 90 employees.
Jim volunteered with many organizations. He was a member of the Erie Fire Department in Georgetown. He served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Lawrence Salvation Army, was a member of the Board of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in North Andover, and was a member of the Georgetown Masonic Lodge. Jim also belonged to Gideons International.
Jim was blessed to meet the second love of his life, Linda. They married in 2012 and had 12 happy years together, living in North Andover. Jim and Linda were active in the community through the Meals on Wheels program.
As a long-standing member of the Byfield Parish Church, Jim served as a deacon and was a member of the choir, as well as active in many other committees. Jim cherished his parish community and the many friendships he made over the years.
Family and friends are invited to attend a service in Jim's memory at 1:00 pm on Saturday,
December 7, 2024, at the Byfield Parish Church, 132 Jackman Street, Georgetown, MA 01833.
