Irene Charow Obituary

Irene L. (Ucewicz) Charow, 94, of North Andover,  a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at Lawrence General Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born to Stanley and Josephine (Boumil) Ucewicz of Lowell on August 18, 1927.  After graduating from Lowell High School, she went on to secretarial school.  She was employed for a number of years at Avco Company locally as a secretary.  She married her beloved husband, John W. Charow, Sr., of Lawrence in July, 1961.  Together they cared for his two daughters, Beverly and Diane, and had one child of their own, John.

Irene loved to spend time in her kitchen cooking delicious meals for her family.  She often baked different desserts for various church fairs and events at St. Francis Church, Lawrence, where she was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.  Not a family event ever went without her famous chocolate cupcakes.  She was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in North Andover.  Her time was also filled with caring for her children and eventually her grandchildren at her home in North Andover.

Predeceased by her husband, John W. Charow, Sr., Irene is survived by her son John and his wife Kathy, and daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Jerry Buteau and Diane and Louis Wipf; 9 grandchildren, Alex and Emma Charow, Elise, Chip, Tobey, Suzanne and Lindsay Buteau, and Jeff and Greg Wipf, as well as numerous great grandchildren.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Ed Pineau, Nancy Tafe, Karen Husson and her husband Gary, Joe Husson and his wife Debbie, as well as grand nieces and nephews, Michael and Lauren Husson, Kristen Hopkinson.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to a calling hour to be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Dewhirst and Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.  A Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, Main Street, North Andover.  Following the Mass, burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Tommy’s Place in Falmouth, MA, a home for children with cancer.  Their contact is Tommy’s Place, 90 Shore Ave., Quincy, MA 02169, and their link is: www.tommysplace.org/donate
