Herbert Beshara Obituary

Herbert George Beshara, born November 1, 1920, passed away peacefully Sunday Evening, February 11, 2024, at the age of 103 in Tewksbury, MA. He was 103 years young.

Born in New Britian, CT, Herbert was the second of four children, raised in the Beshara family home on Pleasant View St, Methuen, MA – a generational home in which he spent his childhood and raised his family. Herbert attended Methuen public schools, graduating from Edward F. Searles High School in 1939. His passion for learning spanned decades; completing numerous courses, earning many certificates, and leading him to his life-long passion for Electrical Engineering. Herbert earned an associate degree in electrical engineering from Merrimack College in 1963. A natural hard worker, Herb held a variety of jobs including painting and paperhanging in the 40’s and Electrical Technician for Community Radio & Television Service in the 50’s, before beginning his career with Western Electric in 1955. Rising up from a tester, he retired as a planning engineer in 1985.

In 1942, Herb enlisted in the Army Signal Corps, Company B, of the 597th Signal Air Warning Battalion in the South Pacific Theatre. He served four years as a company mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a T-4 rank and recognized for his special technical skills.

In 1946, Herbert married the love of his life, Lourice A. (Jurdi) Beshara, and began his favorite life chapter, his family. Herbert was a family man to his core. Once his children were grown, he spent his time traveling, visiting family, and spending time with his grandchildren. A longtime resident of Methuen, MA, Herb was actively involved in his church community and his local 122 Post of the American Legion. His passion for life spanned well into his 9th decade, playing tennis and racquetball with his longtime friend Bob Heinze, entertaining his grandchildren on weekends with bowling, trips to the lake, pool days, playing Barsa and dominos, and always ensuring his family was fully supplied with Lebanese goods from the bakery. He was a dedicated documentarian, recording everything from battery changes to gas fill ups, and most importantly, photographing and recording his life and family through vast collections of photo albums and hours of home videos. He attended every school performance, parade, graduation, and birthday of his grandchildren and documented each one.

He had an exceptionally positive personality, always smiling, with a warm sense of humor and infectious laugh. He loved music, loved to dance, was always whistling and singing in moments of quiet, and occasionally played the harmonica for his family.

Herbert was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Skaff, his brothers Michael and Charles, and his Parents Charles and Hilda Louise Blanche Veinotte Beshara. His survivors include his loving wife of 78 years, Lourice A. Beshara of Dracut, MA, his daughter Jeanne M. Lannon and her husband Wayne of Pelham, NH, his son Robert E. Beshara and his partner Penny Norris of Bowdoinham, ME, his former daughter in Law Cynthia T. Beshara and her partner Stephen Bunker of Englewood, FL; three grandchildren: Matthew C. Lannon, his wife Liliana and her daughter Yaritza of Pelham, NH; Dana K. Roof, her husband Zachary, and daughters Charlotte and Morgan of North Chelmsford, MA; and Lauren T. Palmerino and her husband Andrew of North Reading, MA; and many nieces, nephews, and family friends.
