Helen Marie (Martineau) Shaw O’Brien, 68, of Londonderry, NH, formerly of Methuen, sadly passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021, after a short illness of cancer.
The daughter of the late Lucien A. and Theresa A. (Gaumont) Martineau, Helen was born in Methuen, MA on January 25, 1953. Helen was raised in Methuen, and was a graduate of St. Theresa’s Elementary School and St. Anne’s High School in Lawrence. She was employed with the Internal Revenue Service as a computer operator, and retired after 33 years of service.
Helen will be remembered by her gentle nature, compassion for others, and her loving personality. She touched many people with her warm, kind-hearted ways. She was very active in her granddaughters and daughter’s lives, where she was quick to help those, she loved and cared for.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Lucien and Theresa (Gaumont) Martineau, her first husband, Richard Shaw, and her recent husband, Michael O’Brien. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Shaw) Carney, brothers, Donald Martineau and his partner Debbie Paron, Robert and Sue (Ligouri) Martineau, Roger and Richard Martineau, and Kenneth and Kelly (Pacheco) Martineau. Helen was a proud grandmother to four granddaughters; Erin Carney, Aimee Carney, Kimberly Carney, and Emily Carney. She was also a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to calling hours on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Dewhirst and Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish-St. Theresa’s Church, 22 Plymouth Street, Methuen, MA.
