Gustave (Gus) E. Blomgren Jr. – Methuen, MA
Gustave (Gus) E. Blomgren Jr. of Methuen, Massachusetts, returned home to the Lord
peacefully on Monday May 30, 2022 at the age of 68 years in the presence of his devoted wife.
Born December 5th, 1953 at Lawrence General Hospital to the late Gustave E. and Hazel L.
(Nicholson) Blomgren, he grew up in the family’s ancestral home on Chelmsford St.
An active member of the community, Gus participated in many activities, boards, and
committees including the Methuen Historical Society, Methuen Festival of Trees, and Boy Scout
Troop 51. A life-long educator, Gus began his teaching journey in 1977 after completing his
Bachelor's degree in Spanish. He went on to receive his Master’s degree in Administration after
18 years in the classroom. Gus became the Lower School Principal at the C.G.S. in 1995 and
held that role until his retirement in 2010. His impact is still felt in the thousands of students he
taught throughout his 34 years in the Methuen Public Schools.
Gus was fond of his Swedish ancestry, visiting the country 4 times and becoming active in the Swedish-American organization, Vasa Order of America. He belonged to Birka lodge #732 in Hamilton, MA where he was vice-chairman for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalind, and twin sons, Gustave Eric and Gregory Eutimio of Methuen, his brother ,Robert (Bob) Blomgren, and his wife, Lisa (Buglione), of Methuen, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Dewhirst-Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway Methuen, MA 01844. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Parish, 300 Haverhill St. Lawrence, MA. The family requests that all who plan to attend the visiting hours or Funeral Mass wear a mask. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers, the family plans on creating a scholarship fund in Gus’s memory. Information will be shared at a later date.
