Gerald Smith Obituary

Gerald M. Smith – Amesbury, MA

Gerald M. Smith, age 66 of Amesbury passed away on June 16, 2021, with his family at his side.  He was the son of Carol (Whittemore) Smith and John J. Smith, Jr.  Jerry was born on October 21, 1954, in Methuen, MA.  He was raised and educated in Bellingham, MA and graduated from Bellingham High School.  Following high school Jerry served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged.  Following his military service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering.  In his capacity as an engineer, he travelled extensively for Baird Corp. where he made numerous friends throughout the world.  After leaving Baird Corp. he opened Antares Analytical with his longtime friend and business partner.  He enjoyed the independence that owning his own business afforded him.

Jerry enjoyed volunteering at a local animal shelter where he took great pleasure taking care of the animals, especially the cats.  Jerry had an avid interest in history, particularly military history.  He enjoyed watching classic science fiction movies.  He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, always ready with a story or an anecdote.

Jerry is survived by and will be greatly missed by his sisters, Jacquelyn (Smith) DeClercq of Dracut, MA, and Valerie (Smith) Clark and husband, Donald of Nashua, NH.  His niece, Nichole DeClercq and her partner, Ericka Avery also survive him.
