Gemma “Jennie” Rose (Buggea) Fiato Podbielski, 97, passed away on December 18, 2023 following a short illness. She was born in Lawrence, MA and was a beloved member of her community.
Jennie was known for her love of animals, especially her cats, fostering many of them in her lifetime. She had a nurturing spirit and had a dedicated career as an LPN employed at Danvers State Hospital, Danvers, MA for over 20 years. She touched the lives of many patients with her caring nature and dedication to their well-being.
Jennie’s compassion extended beyond her work, as she was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Lucy’s Church in Methuen where she worshipped and found solace. She enjoyed music and regularly shared her beautiful soprano voice by singing as a soloist and also, in the church choir. Jennie also served as a Eucharistic Minister and a participant in the Third Order of Saint Francis.
She is survived by her two grandsons, Michael A. Fiato and Mark D. Fiato, four great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was pre-deceased by her parents Salvatore and Rose (Petralia) Buggea, her first husband Anthony P. Fiato, her son, John J. Fiato, Sr., her grandson, John “Jay” Fiato, Jr. and his wife, Ana L. Fiato, her second husband, Stanley J. Podbielski, and by her Buggea sisters, Ann Alakel, Mary Grieco, Susan DeQuattro and Nancy Boucher.
Jennie will be dearly missed by her loved ones and all who knew her in the community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
The family would like to thank the staff at MI Restorative Nursing Care in Lawrence, MA for the exceptional care bestowed upon Jennie while she was in their care.
