Fred Whitehead - Lawrence

Fred Whitehead, age 78 of Lawrence, MA passed away peacefully Sunday Sept 27, 2020 surrounded by his children at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.  Fred was born & raised in Lawrence, one of 5 children to the late, Clement & Genevieve (Loik) Whitehead.  He was educated in Lawrence Public Schools.  Fred spent over 25 years as a lead pressman at Lawrence Packaging Company before it’s closing.  He was also a caretaker for St. Anthony’s Cemetery for over 40 years with his father figure, Tuffic Hatem.

Fred enjoyed going for walks, cooking, playing darts and cards, fishing, plowing snow, motorcycle rides and tinkering in the garage.  He especially enjoyed being around his family.  He will always be remembered for his famous Thanksgiving turkey. 

Fred is survived by his 4 children, Cathy Douin & husband, Vincent of Sidney, ME, Michael Whitehead & his wife, Theresa of Lawrence, MA, Rina Buote & her husband, Matt of Salem, NH, Kyle Whitehead & his wife, Patricia of Lawrence, MA. He is also survived by his siblings, Justine Wesson of Tucson, AZ, George Whitehead & his wife, Joan of N. Andover, MA and Joseph Whitehead of Lawrence, MA.  He adored his 7 grandchildren, Kerra Keene, Jessica Keene, Chad Keene, Trevor Buote, Madison Buote, Kyle Whitehead, Jr, Travis Buote, along with his 6 great-grandchildren, Sadie Abbott, Seth Abbott, Eli Keene, Kylee Keene, Peyton Clarke and Cora Gunst.  Several nieces & nephews also survive him.  Fred was predeceased by his wife of 23 years, Shirley (Harrington) Whitehead & his daughter, Ruth Ann Whitehead (22years old) as well as his sister, Barbara Tannalfo.

Calling hours are Saturday October 3, 2020 from 1 – 4:30 PM at Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.  A Funeral Service will follow the calling hours at 4:30 PM at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.  The Whitehead family requests that all who attend please be mindful of social distancing and to please wear a mask.  The family requests donations to: American Heart Association, 300 5th Ave., Waltham, MA 02451 or American Diabetes Association, 260 Cochituate Rd. #200, Framingham, MA 01701.  Please visit www.dewhirstbolesfuneral.com for directions or to sign the online guest book.
