Fernanda M. Ataide

Fernanda Maria (Tavares) Ataide, age 82 of Methuen passed away on June 28th, 2022 in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love of her family.  Mrs Ataide was Born on April 18th, 1940 in Vila Franca Do Campo, Sao Miguel Azores to Evaristo and Virginia Tavares.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Edwin Ataide. 

Fernanda was an incredible seamstress. There wasn’t anything she could not do with a needle and thread. She made the most amazing quilts that she shared with her family. She was an avid gardener, growing vegetables and the most beautiful flowers. She was an incredible baker, often sharing the most delicious treats with her family and friends.

She worked at Berkeley Nursing Home for several years in the kitchen and assisting patients when needed, as well as in the Lawrence mills stitching clothing. She always mended clothing for those who needed it and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, Japanese bunka and needle point. 

Fernanda will be deeply missed by her daughter Linda Mades and her husband David of Methuen, her son Edwin Ataide and his wife Nancy of Biddeford, ME. She also leaves her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life; her grandson Michael Mades of Methuen, granddaughter Alyssa Sexton and her husband Michael of Haverhill and on Mother’s Day her life was complete when her great-grandson Finn Sexton was born. 

Fernanda also leaves her sisters Maria DeSousa and her husband Ramiro of Fall River, MA., Natividad Ferreira of Salem, NH. and her brother Jorge Tavares of Charlotte, ME as well as several nieces and nephews. 

 She was predeceased by her brothers Eduardo Tavares and Jose Daniel Tavares and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Victor and Grace Hatem. 

Funeral services and burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen will be private. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Fernanda’s memory is asked to consider the MSPCA at Nevins Farm or Dana Farber Methuen.
