Doris M. Plantamura – Methuen, MA

Doris Mary (Allain /Allen) Plantamura passed away peacefully on Sunday February 5, 2023.

Doris was born in Andover on April 19, 1925 to Thomas and Phoebe (Bernard) Allain /Allen.

Doris always loved the beach. To help fulfill her passion, she obtained her hairdressing license at a young age. Doris followed the snowbirds through the seasons, working in Hampton Beach during the summer and Miami in the winter. She also worked at Pattavina's, Cedar Crest, and Dunkin’ Donuts. A woman with many skills and talents, Doris was a seamstress, knitter, volunteer at Methuen Senior Center, a Den Mother to Pack 51, and an Avon salesperson, just to name a few.

Doris, with her husband, Frank, raised five children at their home on Lowell Street in Methuen. Doris and Frank lovingly opened their house to family, friends, and neighbors, creating a place to gather. All were welcome. Doris dedicated herself fully to her family and home. Her strong faith guided her as the matriarch of the family. Her seven grandchildren and great grandson were her pride and joy. Doris enjoyed family vacations, card games, knitting, sewing, cooking, and baking. Chicken escarole soup, spaghetti and meatballs, oatmeal raisin cookies, and pizzelles were some of her specialties.

Doris’ surviving family include her brothers, Thomas Allain (and his wife Bernadette) and Donald Allain (and his wife  Diane); sisters-in-law, Frances Allain, Gail Allain, and Carolyn Plantamura; her children and their spouses, Michael and Karyn of California, David and Cindy, Frank and Suzanne of North Carolina, Alan and Beth, and Angela and John DiZoglio; her grandchildren, Lydia Plantamura; Genna Wells (and her husband, Russ Wells); Michael and Paul Plantamura; John, Eleana, and Jessica DiZoglio; and great grandson, Ryland Wells. As well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and honorary grandchildren. 

Doris was predeceased by her husband Frank; five of her siblings, Charles (and Helen) Allain, Bernard Allain and Joe (Roger) Allain, Dolores (and Ralph) Chasse, and Marie (and Jim) Smith; sister-in-law Patricia Allain; nephews, Bruce and Charles Allain Jr. and Denis Chassè; and grandnieces, Taryn King and Melissa Wood.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. on June 17, 2023 at St. Theresa Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, 22 Plymouth Street, Methuen, MA. Please meet the family at the church. Committal services for both Doris and her husband Frank will follow immediately at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Mausoleum located near 55 Hideaway Lane, Methuen, MA.
