“No matter where I am your spirit will be beside me”
Dante R. Somma, of Salisbury MA, passed away at the young age of 90. He was born on July 15, 1930 in Lawrence, MA to Italian immigrant parents Bice and Gennaro Somma, both from the Caserta region of Italy.
Dante is survived by his wife Edna Somma, daughter Michele Dussault, son & daughter in law Patrick & Carole Somma, daughter Linda Somma, and daughter and son in law Danita & Chuck Scione, his older sister Mary, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dante has three grandchildren: Christopher and his wife Ebony and children Sylas and Remy Dussault, and Michael and Matthew Somma.
Dante was well known around town. He had a bright smile and sharp wit. Dante was a great singer and was often heard singing Sinatra or humming some Rat Pack song (who, coincidently he saw at a young age in Vegas!) He loved playing cards (& gambling) ;) and showing off his card tricks, especially to the customers at his daughters’ pub, where he hung around to ‘keep an eye on things’. He loved talking about his adventures and telling jokes – sometimes even a little risqué.
Dante and Edna raised their children in Andover, MA in a house that he personally took part in building. He was always immensely proud of that house. He was a family oriented man, and many festive parties were hosted in their beautiful home. Dante loved the beach and the ocean and was a great swimmer. He made sure his family spent every summer at Salisbury beach, which was a real treat for the entire family.
Dante loved good Italian food and had a great appetite, right up until the end. He loved Las Vegas. Dante was a member of the Italian/American Civic Association (IACA) as well as the Pontiac Club, both in Lawrence, MA. Dante was an electrician in the Navy for 4 years during the Korean War and shared stories of his various adventures. It is therefore fitting that he passed on Veteran’s Day. He was also a licensed plumber and served as a facilities manager at Raytheon and MIT.
Lastly, many thanks to High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA.
