Christine Holden Obituary

Christine Marie (Cartus) Holden of Methuen passed away on Tuesday August 20, 2019 at Academy Manor, Andover.  Mrs. Holden was born in Petingen, Luxemburg.  She met her husband, James R. Holden, Jr when he was stationed in Germany with The US Air Force.  She was 19 at that time. They married and had 2 children, Ellen Marie and Lee Richard.  They then traveled back from Germany to Methuen and that is where they built their lives together.  They had 2 more sons, Wayne John and Mark James.  Christine went on to improve her English, get her citizenship, get her driver’s license and find employment.  She worked part time for several years at Almy’s Department Store and later full time at Raytheon Company.  She went on to do house cleaning jobs and held several positions as a nanny.

She loved spending her summers at Hampton Beach and being able to travel back to Germany to be with her family there. Best of all she loved her home; spending time on her back porch and deck and watching Sunday football with her longtime friends, Bob and Peggy.  She was a big Patriots fan but also a big, if not sometimes a bigger, Jets fan.

Christine’s family members include her daughter, Ellen (Holden) Gadomski of Methuen, her sons, Lee and his wife Gail of Goffstown, NH, Wayne and his wife Cindy of Methuen and Mark and his wife Diane of Methuen.  She also leaves her brother Herbert Cartus and his wife Angela of Germany, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandson as well as several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.  A private graveside service will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen. Memorial contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20006.   Arrangements are by the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen.
