Charles Keough Obituary

Mr. Charles W. Keough was born on July 28, 1928 in Lawrence, MA the son of loving parents Nelson F. and Iren M. (Sargent) Keough.  He passed away on Thursday December 19, 2019 at Cedarview Rehab and Healthcare Center, Methuen.

Charlie was educated in the Lawrence Public School System graduating with distinction from Lawrence High School in 1945.  During his senior year, he continued his interest in telecommunicating  (originally beginning with the Boy Scouts) by selecting a class in typewriting and Morse Code.  After graduation, he enrolled in a class at Massachusetts Radio and Telegraph School in Boston.  As a result, he was able to obtain amateur and commercial operating licenses from the Federal Communications Commission. He then entered The US Navy where he was trained as an electronics technician.  After discharge from the Navy, he received a BS degree in television engineering.

Before beginning a career in engineering, he was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency where he served as a communications specialist for 6 years.  Following that stint, he was employed as a field engineer for several firms.

Charlie then switched careers by joining the Internal Revenue Service obtaining the position of supervising tax examiner. After 3 years at IRS, Charlie changed gears again and received an appointment with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles for fifteen years, retiring after service as Examiner, Investigator and Supervising Hearings Officer.

After retiring, Charlie enjoyed travelling, especially, to Walt Disney World and surfing the internet. He was friendly, had a great sense of humor and will be sorely missed.  Charlie is survived by several cousins, notably Frances S. Keogh who devoted many months to tender loving care during his multiple physical problems.

Other family members are Katherine Blanchette and her children Michelle and her husband Mark Houle and Brian, his wife Alex Blanchette, James and M. Patricia Keogh and Jackie Keogh and his wife Charlotte of Connecticut.  He also leaves many former colleagues and friends.
