Bertha Rothwell, 101 of Bradford, MA passed away on Monday September 1, 2025. Bertha was born in Methuen on June 17, 1924 the daughter of the late George E. and Hannah (Mill) Morley. She was raised and educated in Methuen and was a lifelong resident of Methuen. She was a 1942 graduate of Edward F. Searles High School and McIntosh Business School. Bertha had been employed as an administrative secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for the City of Methuen. She retired in 1988. She was also co-owner, with her husband, of Rothwell’s Bakery of Methuen.
Bertha was a member of St Andrew Episcopal Church of Methuen where she served the church in many capacities and ultimately became its senior member. She was a member of the O.E.S, Order of The Eastern Star, the Red Hats, the Methuen School Retirees Association, the Methuen Senior Center and the Rainbow Club of Methuen and was an avid bowler. She enjoyed theatre, crossword puzzles, the Happy Hearts Choral Group and was an avid Red Sox fan.
The widow of Elmer W. Rothwell, Bertha leaves her daughter Cynthia R. Montecalvo and her husband Anthony D., her step-granddaughter Laurie Jean McClellan and great granddaughters Sophina G. and Gianna M. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Gilbert E., Kenneth R., John, Ernest A. and sisters Lily Skene, Ruth E. Dahms and Dorothy Haney.
Family and friends are invited to an hour of visitation on Monday September 8, 2025 from 10 am to 11 am at St. Andrew Epsicopal Church, 90 Broadway Methuen, MA. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 am on Monday at the Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 90 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 or to High Pointe Hospice House, 360 North Avenue Haverhill, MA 01830.
