Barbara Bell Obituary

Barbara Mendez Bell – Andover, MA

Barbara Mendez Bell passed away peacefully on Saturday May 30, 2026, at the age of 78, with family by her side.

She battled an autoimmune polyneuropathy with extraordinary strength, courage, and resilience for nearly twenty years and was blessed to have her daughter, Allison, by her side as her caretaker for her last twelve years.

Barbara was born in Saint Andrews Parish, Jamaica to parents Dorothy Graham Mendez and Ronald Hargraves Mendez, on October 27, 1947. She spent the majority of her formative years in Morningside Heights in New York City. Barbara earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Barnard College of Columbia University. She had a love of the arts and painted as a relaxing past time activity. Barbara had a tremendous sense of humor and worked hard all her life, holding various positions in administrative assistant roles in and around Suffern, New York, where she took a keen interest in writing.

Barbara loved her family more than anything. Motivated by her desire to give her children every opportunity to thrive and be happy, she selflessly dedicated herself to this cause to ensure they were cared for, supported, and encouraged throughout their lives. She celebrated every success, offered comfort during hardship, and provided unwavering guidance and encouragement. She leaves behind her loving children, Geoffrey Charles Bell and Allison Bell Dianis (Scott), five beautiful grandchildren, Elise Caroline, Nathan Henry, Kayla Molly, Hadley Brynn, and Pearse Aidan, and former husband Thomas Henry Bell.

Barbara had a smile that lit up any room. Her warm heart and generous spirit made the people around her feel cared for. Her legacy endures in the values she instilled in her children and the many lives she touched with her kindness and compassion. Her practical wisdom guided those around her, while her quiet dignity, grace, and determination carried her through life's changes and challenges.

She was loved deeply, is profoundly missed, and will remain forever in our hearts. May her memory be eternal.
