Albert Evans

Albert Evans, formerly of Methuen, died peacefully on Thursday, October 13, 2022.

The son of the late Albert and Eva Amy (Long) Evans, he was born in Methuen on June 2, 1926.  He was educated in Methuen schools and Searles High School in Methuen.  Albert was sharp as a tack and had the memory of an elephant; he could tell a story from any era of his life at the simplist of prompts.  These stories would include details from sitting behind Norma Egerton—his future wife—in grade school, to spending summers digging clams on Ogunquit Beach, breaking athletic records at Searles High School, later Methuen High School (where he was inducted into their Hall of Fame), and serving in World War II in the U. S. Navy, after lying about his age to be admitted.

Albert was a true man of honor who spent his career working himself from Lab Technician to President of Merrimack Paper Company.  He was also a tireless volunteer in both civic and church affairs.  But his crowning achievement was his marriage to Norma Egerton, whom he wed in 1950.  They remained married until her death in 2020, weeks short of their 70th Anniversary.

Albert is predeceased by his wife, Norma.  He is survived by his children; David Evans and wife Katie Glick of Wells, ME; Steven Evans and wife Mara of East Sandwich, MA; Elizabeth Butters and husband Bob of Wilmington, MA.  Also his grandchildren; Nico Evans and wife Camree of York, ME; Amy McIntyre and husband Rick of Londonderry, NH; Evan Butters of Wilmington, MA; Harrison Evans and Rosie Evans of East Sandwich, MA.  He leaves one great grandchild, Cameron McIntyre, who was the apple of his eye.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to calling hours on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Dewhirst Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.  A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Methuen with U. S. Navy Honors.
