Adele (Padvaiskas) Martin, 93, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Mary Immaculate Nursing/Restorative Center in Lawrence.
The daughter of the late Frank and Theresa (Simonis) Padvaiskas, Adele was born in Lawrence on December 30, 1925. A graduate of Lawrence High School, she attended Emmanuel College in Boston, where she was also a talented swimmer, and received her degree in Social Work in 1947. She was employed in the Department of Youth Services as a supervisor in the agency’s Boston office for over 40 years. She was a longtime commuter on the train to Boston, and was honored by the train conductors on her last day of work. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed local and national politics. In 1948, she married her husband, the late Leslie J. Martin. She was a frequent caller on local talk radio, often using the name “Mary from Lawrence”. Adele was a devout Catholic, and supported a number of charities, including Disabled American Veterans and Paralyzed Veterans. She loved to give gifts, surprising family, friends, postal workers, and even employees at her favorite Market Basket with presents. Adele lived her entire life in Lawrence.
Adele is survived by her son, J. Leslie Martin and his wife, Susan Perry, her daughter, Mary Ramirez and her husband, Frank Ramirez, and her three grandchildren, Theresa Ramirez, Sarah Ramirez, and Alejandro Ramirez. Adele was predeceased by her brother, Rev. John F. Padvaiskas, and a brother and sister who died in infancy.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to calling hours on Monday, November 18, 2019 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 11:00AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
