Obituary

Ada F. (Marsland) Matey – Methuen, MA

Ada F. (Marsland) Matey went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 25, 2022 at High Point Hospice House in Haverhill, MA, with her family by her side, 19 days shy of her 100th birthday.  She was born on May 14, 1922 the daughter of the late, Russell and Mary (Lumb) Marsland.  She graduated from Essex Agricultural School at the top of her class, where she then went on to work as the head of the stocking department at the Thread and Bobbin Company until she started her family.  In addition to the role of wife, mother, and home keeper, Ada was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution to preserve her grandmother’s involvement.  She also attended the United Methodist Church in Lawrence, MA most of her life.

Anyone that knew Ada knew that she was a big Elvis fan.  She also loved spending time at the Rockingham Mall where she walked for daily exercise and to people watch, as she was an observer by nature.  Ada loved doing just about anything with her family, never turning down an opportunity to babysit her grandchildren, often allowing extra after-school snacks before dinnertime.  She also made annual trips to Canobie Lake Park with her great-grandchildren, where she enjoyed watching them run excitedly from one ride to the next, every so often giving in to the thrill of a ride like the Flume, the Sky Ride and even the Pirate Ship for the great-grandkids enjoyment.  Watching the Merry-Go-Round at the amusement park was her favorite part of the trip – reminiscing about when her father would bring her and her sisters when they were little girls.  Despite not being overly adventurous in character, Ada greatly enjoyed any activity that involved spending time with her loved ones – days by the pool, leaf peeping in the mountains, collecting seashells and building sand castles at the beach, and even once venturing on a hot air balloon ride across town.

Ada is survived by her daughter-in-law, Alice Tombarello and her husband, George of Atkinson, NH, her grandchildren, Kerri Bergeron and her husband, David of Salem, NH, George Tombarello and his wife, Stacy of Atkinson, NH and Matthew Tombarello of Epping, NH, and her great-grandchildren, Carl, Nicolas, Jessica, Kody, Kaitlyn, George, Gianna, Ada, and Gavin.  She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred, her son, Alan, her grandson, Karl, her great-grandson, Kyle, as well as her three sisters, Bernice Siegel, Edyth Malbon, and Norma Buchan.

There are no calling hours and the Graveside Service will be private.

Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 is entrusted with the arrangements.  Please visit www.dewhirstbolesfuneral.com to sign the online guest book.
