Mona Williams Obituary

Mona S. Williams of Andover passed away on July 4, 2019, with her daughter by her side at Holy Family Hospital. She was 80.  

A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Mona was born on November 21, 1938, to the late Howard Robert Sloan and Zelma Mae (Gibson) Highbaugh. Mona graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1956. She married her late husband Robert A. Williams, III in 1960. Mona and Robert Williams, III moved to Massachusetts in 1968 with their family. She was an active member of Third Baptist Church, Lawrence, MA.

Mona earned a Technical Certificate as an Operating Room Technician from Essex Agricultural & Technical Institute. Later in life her desire to obtain a college degree came to fruition where Mona received a Bachelor of Science in African American Women Studies from Simmons College in 2000 and was awarded the Maya Angelou Award for Academic Excellence.

Left to mourn her passing are her six children; Robert A., IV of Ontario, CA, Michele A. of Orlando, FL, Monica A. of Norristown, PA, Davynne D. of Dracut, MA, Bobbi Jean of Arlington, TX, Apryl N. of Orlando, FL, 10 grandchildren; David, Lawrence, Ashli, Rashaad, Robert, Zavier, Jazmynne, Romello, Jamaal and Dakota and 3 great-grandchildren; Isabella, Cruz, Jr. and Arianna Diaz. Mona is survived by her sister, Alice H. Cornelison and is preceded in death by her sisters Brittania Jean Whitehead and Bobbie Ann Sloan.

Mona lived a full life and will be missed by all that knew and loved her. ​​Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Third Baptist Church, 22 Warren Street, Lawrence, MA at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Inc – Boston Chapter, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300. Jacksonville, FL 32256, or National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
