Marilyn "Mal" A. (Burby) Harty, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 7, 2018.
Mal was born, grew up and lived her entire life in the Five Corners Area of Methuen. It was there that she raised her family with her husband Dick.
She may have lived in Methuen but she was known by many as a great cook in 2 well known establishments in Lawrence. In her early years she was at Eddie Mann's where she met and formed a lifetime friendship with Gail Lambert. Those 2 were together as best buds right up to the end. When Mann's closed Mal went to Sam's Steakout where she became known for her famous Meatloaf dinner and the famous Fish & Chips she served on Friday nights. Those meals brought in so many guests and it was through her cooking and sitting in those booths that countless friendships and memories were formed. Her sense of humor and loyalty to family and friends will be remembered and missed by all who are fortunate enough to have met her.
Mal was predeceased by her father and mother William and Anna Burby, brother William Burby of Arizona, husband Richard J. Harty and daughter Debra A. Harty.
She leaves behind sister Kathy Mabee and spouse Stan, daughters Donna Deschamp and partner Ralph (Butch) Richards, Dianne Houde and spouse David and son David Harty. Her 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, nephew Stephen, niece Karen and 3 great nephews. She also left behind special friends who were always there for her Sue Ellen and Richard Holmes.
Whether you called her, Sis, Mom, Auntie, Memere or Friend she would always answer and we all know she will always be watching over us. In case you doubt this, just look up and you will see her she is that Shining Star!
Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service to be held at the family lot in Elmwood Cemetery, North Lowell Street, Methuen on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 1:00 PM.
