Margaret "Peg" Burton, RN, ANP Obituary

On October 18, 2019, Margaret T. "Peg" (Trainor) Burton, formerly of Lawrence, passed away peacefully at her Methuen home at the age of 77.  She was born in Lowell, MA and was the daughter of the late William and Florence (McKone) Trainor.

Raised in a military family, Peg lived for periods of time with her parents in both the United States and Europe in her youth.  She graduated from Central High School in London, England and went on to earn R.N. from St. Mary's School of Nursing, Clarksburg, West Virginia. Peg furthered her professional education in nursing, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Duquesne University and later achieved a Master's Degree in Nursing from Boston University.

Peg's exemplary nursing career spanned over 40 years in the U.S. and internationally, including roles as a staff nurse at Wheeling Hospital, WV, nursing supervisor at Clinica del Sagrado Corazon in Jalapa, Guatemala and later as a Nurse Practitioner at Boston City Hospital.  For a time, she served as Director of Professional Services at the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center and later as a Nurse Manager at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA.  Locally, for 10 years before her retirement, Peg was responsible for the wellness and medical concerns of 13,000 students as the Director of Health and Nursing Services for Lawrence Public Schools.

Peg dedicated her professional life to her nursing career and even through her retirement she remained current and well-read on contemporary research and treatment advances in the medical field.

With her late husband, James "Fluffy" Burton, with whom she shared 27 happy years of marriage, Peg enjoyed vacation travel to many locales including Rome, Ireland, the Carribbean islands, Alaska, Hawaii, and their favorite happy place in Aruba.

Peg was a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner of Saint Patrick Church, Lawrence, MA. Peg is survived by brothers, Michael and John Trainor, sister, Mary Faucher (Thomas), sisters-in-law, Jeanne Burton, Faye Grutkowski and Joanne Trainor, many nieces, nephews and her precious Dachshunds, Snickers and Milky Way.  She was predeceased by brothers, Bernard and William Trainor.
