Joseph Edward Marcello, of Methuen passed away peacefully on October 24, 2017 at Lawrence General Hospital to be with his beloved wife, Lillian, who passed away 7 weeks earlier. Tiny, as he was well known to all of his friends, was a big man with a big heart. He spent his life always giving to others and was always touched by others in need. Joseph was born in Lawrence and moved to Pleasant Valley, Methuen at an early age. There he grew up forming lifetime friendships with many people. He attended Searles High School in Methuen and went into the army as a teenager. After his military service, he went to work with his father selling Archway Cookies. After the business closed, he worked for Morehouse Bakery, Genest Bakery and Drakes Bakery finally retiring as a route salesman. Not being able to sit still, he began another career which lasted 20 years, driving a special needs bus for American Training in Lawrence. Joe was adored by his special passengers and nicknamed “Tiny Bubbles” by them. During the 50’s and 60’s, Joseph, his father and his best friend, Henry Bruno formed M and B Kennels and raced championship Greyhounds at several local tracks and was well known in the racing community. He also bowled with the Holy Rosary bowling league and was known for his “left hook”. Joseph will be dearly missed by his close circle of family and friends. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff of doctors and nurses at Lawrence General Hospital who gave Tiny all the best care possible and a very special thank you to Lynn on the cardiac care floor who was the family’s “angel” in the hospital and also to the Nevins Rehabilitation Home for all the care he received there.
