James D. "Jim" Shirton

James D. “Jim” Shirton, 80 of Methuen passed away on Sunday June 17, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.  Mr. Shirton was born, raised, and educated in Methuen. He was a graduate of Bentley University of Waltham, and for 39 years Jim worked as an accountant with Avco/Textron of Wilmington, MA. He served with The US Army Reserve and was a longtime attendant and supporter of St. Andrew Episcopal Church, Methuen. Jim loved all sports but was one of the great Red Sox fans.  He was an avid bowler and softball player for much of his life.  His biggest passion though was his wife, his children, grandchildren, and family.

His family members include his wife of 47 years, Eleanor L. (Fuller) Shirton of Methuen.  His daughters Tami Mailloux of Methuen, and Brenda Torres and her husband Jose Torres of Merrimack, NH. He also leaves his son, James D. Shirton Jr. and his wife Leah Joy Shirton of Randolph, MA.  Jim leaves a sister, Claire Cavanaugh of Methuen and his grandchildren, Janel, Emily, Jonathan, Evan, Kathryn, Lauren and Allyson.  He also is survived by his brother-in-law, Brent Fuller and his wife, Ida of California and his brother-in-law, Harry Fuller of Lowell as well as sisters-in-law, Clare Dowling and Brenda Makiej both of Lowell and many nieces and nephews.

Jim’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and Dr. Khitrik of Dana Farber Community Care and his VNA nurse, Julie for her kind and compassionate care.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday June 21, 2018 from 5pm to 8pm at The Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Funeral services will be on Friday June 22 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA. 01701 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
