Effie G. (Hajj) Saba, 99 passed away April 24 at Mary Immaculate Nursing Home in Lawrence. Effie was a lifelong resident of Lawrence and Methuen. Born on February 5, 1920 to the late John and Mary (Kanan) Hajj, she was educated in the Lawrence School System and graduated from Lawrence High School.
Effie was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother and considered her family to be her greatest accomplishment and source of joy. She was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress. Her hobbies included ballroom dancing and bowling which she enjoyed well into her eighties.
She was a member of St. Anthony Church of Lawrence and was also a member of the Daughters of St. Anthony. She was employed by Western Electric in North Andover and ITT Semiconductors in Lawrence until her retirement in 1985.
Her family members include her daughter, Christine Noyes of Plaistow, NH, son, William Saba of Lawrence, grandson Matthew Noyes and his wife, Danielle of North Andover, 3 great grandchildren, Brandon, Charlotte and Alexandra Noyes of North Andover, her sister-in-law Jeanette Hajj of California and Charles Noyes of Haverhill. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Effie was predeceased by her husband, William C. Saba and daughter Lorraine Saba. One of ten children, she is also predeceased by sisters, Adele Hatem, Helen Hajj, Emily Grasso, Genevieve Rahilly and brothers, Manny, Charles, George, James and Thomas Hajj.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Sunday April 28, 2019 from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A Funeral Mass will be on Monday April 29 at 10:30 am in St. Anthony Church, 145 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA. (guests are asked to please meet at the church). Interment will be in United Lebanese Cemetery, Andover. Memorial contributions may be made to The ALAA, PO Box 2244, Methuen, MA. 01844.
