Dorothy Wilcock Obituary

Dorothy Ann “Dottie” Eldon Wilcock 78 of Methuen passed to her eternal reward on October 2, 2019 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Ma after a brief illness.

Dottie was born on April 11, 1941 in St John, New Brunswick, Canada and lovingly adopted by her parents, James and Edna (Watts) Eldon. A lifelong resident of Methuen, she attended Methuen Public Schools graduating from Tenney High School in 1958. She also attended McIntosh Business School in Lawrence. Dottie was well known locally for her musical talent, playing the piano and organ. She was organist and choir director at First Methodist Church in Lawrence for many years;  but her first love was the First Baptist Church in Methuen where she was a lifetime member serving in many capacities including treasurer, finance committee chair and life deacon. She also played the organ and sang in the First Baptist choir. Dottie was also a longtime member of the Methuen Community Chorus. Dottie worked in the banking industry at Bay State National, later Bank of New England and at New Heritage Bank in Lawrence.  After leaving banking, she worked at the Children’s Center in Methuen as office manager.  She loved the children and they loved her. She enjoyed playing piano, travelling, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, spending winter months in Florida and most importantly her family.  Sunday lunches were a must as the family gathered every week after church. Ask Dottie how things were going or how she was feeling, her answer was always “fine”. Never complaining, criticizing or speaking ill of others. She will be dearly missed by her many friends at First Baptist Church and those other friends whose lives were touched by her amazing quiet presence.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Tilton, Diane and husband Michael Fluet, 4 grandchildren, Michael Tilton of Methuen, James Tilton of Manchester NH, Alyssa and Abbey Fluet of Methuen. She was also predeceased by grandchildren Jennifer, C.J., Laura and Francis Tilton and also leaves her friend and life companion Elaine Mills.
