Dorothy R. "Dottie" (Potter) Christiana Akimchuk, 73, of Salem, New Hampshire died peacefully Tuesday morning October 15, 2019 after battling a long illness. Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Richard D. and Margaret M. ( McCusker) Potter.
Dottie was a graduate of Lawrence High School, and later in life received several certifications in Professional Medical Billing and Coding as well as a certificate in drug and alcohol counseling which she used in her work at rehab shelters. She enjoyed her job as an instructor at Seacoast Career School in Manchester, New Hampshire where she taught for many years and impacted many lives until her retirement.
Dottie was an avid reader, a talented artist in painting and ceramics, a gifted writer and die-hard Patriots fan. She loved her family and was a warm, caring and gracious friend.
Dottie was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Eugene Akimchuk, her brother Richard E. Potter, and her granddaughter Candice Christiana.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia and her husband Lawrence Mast, her sons Richard and his wife Kay Christiana, Michael, Jr and his wife Dawn Christiana and David and his husband Ernest Christiana. Dottie also leaves her brother Patric and his wife Donna Potter, sisters Laurel and her husband Andrew Moynihan and Geraldine and her husband Paul Fegan. She also has ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, five nieces and a nephew, cousins and beloved friends.
The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the wonderful partners and providers during her long battle. Special thanks to The Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital where she received tender and compassionate care from all. Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Han-Ting Lin, whose compassion is unsurpassed, and Dr. Chiochen Cheng and Dr. Paul Liguori, who were tirelessly dedicated to her care. Thank you to Kathy Savvas Gendrick, who made miracles happen. Thank you also to High Point Hospice House, who provided love and care to all of us. We wish we could name all, but none will be forgotten. Again, thank you all.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday October 20, 2019 from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Funeral services will be on Monday October 21 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
