Charles O. Hosterman III, 78, of Methuen, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Holy Family Hospital.

Charles was born June 19, 1938, to the late Rose A. (Byrne) and Charles O. Hosterman, Jr., in Dorchester, MA. He was educated in Methuen at Tenney High School and later attended Lowell Tech. He served in the Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic Pease AFB, Manchester, NH and was activated for duty during the Cuban crisis.

He was employed by the IRS in Andover, MA as Night Shift Manager Code & Edit for 23 years. He was the original owner of Modeler’s Junction in Methuen, MA and owner of the 606 Stores in Manchester, NH. He was Chairman of the Marsh School Building Committee in the 1970’s and was active in Methuen politics & the Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. He was also a member of the John Hancock Lodge in Methuen & the Methuen Lions Club.

Chuck was an avid model railroader and antique enthusiast. He had a passion for all things history. He was known for his insightful and sometimes controversial Letters to the Editor in the Eagle Tribune.
He always told his kids that he was “the last of the nice guys”. He loved his children and his grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his wife Mary C. (Roberge) Hosterman with 53 years of marriage. He also leaves his children:  Stephanie L. Naroian and her husband John A. of Methuen; Craig O. Hosterman and his wife, Becci V. of Atkinson, NH. His grandchildren: Olivia & Charlotte Hosterman and Madison & Jake Naroian. He is predeceased by son Charles O. Hosterman, IV; sisters Patricia Holmberg and Judith Skaff; and sister-in-law Anne Murach. He is survived by brothers-in-law: Joseph Roberge, Francis Roberge and is wife Louise, Andrew Roberge and his wife Palma, John Roberge and his wife Candace, Benjamin Roberge and his wife Cindy, Peter Roberge and his wife Christina; sisters in-law: Celina Tine and her partner Richard Ingalls, Agnes Coco and her husband Fred, Lillian Boutin. As well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, March 3, 2017, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the chapel at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
