Carmel Monroe Obituary

Carmel Alice (Berube)Monroe, 91 of Methuen, Barefoot Bay, FL and most recently Hull and Hingham, MA passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018. Despite living with Alzheimer’s and the limitations that brought, she lived her life with such grace and was a gift to all who knew her. She was born on July 16, 1927 to Alphonse and Alice Berube and was married to the late Ernest Monroe, Sr. Carmel was preceded in death by her brother Chuck and sisters Peg and Claire and granddaughter Laura. She Leaves 4 children and 8 granddaughters, daughter Joanne Abel and her daughters Cassandra and Cameron, daughter Paula O’Dea and her husband Michael and their daughters Kerri, Kelly and her husband Mike O’Brien, and Kasey and her husband Kevin Calabro. She also leaves her son Ernest R. Monroe Jr. and his wife Cheryl and their daughters, Jennifer and her husband Michael Hedge, Samantha and her fiancé William Carroll and Megan and her husband Nicholas Welch. She also leaves her daughter Nancy Monroe and her wife Deborah Fleck as well as 3 great grandchildren Austin, Tyler, and Quinn and 1 great greatgrandchild Topanga and many nieces and nephews.

Carmel worked at the Lawrence Paper Mill where she met her husband Ernie and later worked at Jordan’s and Our Lady Of Mount Carmel school cafeteria. She and her husband were parishioners of Our Lady of Mt Carmel church until they retired to Barefoot Bay in Florida in 1987. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, crafting, trips to the beach, reading, playing cards and singing in the church choir.

Carmel’s Family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to all of her friends and staff at Harbor House in Hingham for their kind and compassionate care.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday September 4, 2018 from 4pm to 7pm at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday September 5 at 10:00 am in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, MA.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA. 02452.
